Thinking about starting a tradition of making baked goods for the work anniversaries of members of your team?

That’s fantastic!

But, if you’re here reading a blog post about it, then you have questions, and we’d like to help!

Who enjoys being a work anniversary baker?

This isn’t for everyone. It’s actually not for most people. But, on the right team, it can be really special, and it’s not something that the CEO or HR or even the manager can do.

When we say it isn’t for everyone, generally all of the following need to be true:

  • You love baking

  • You are on a small enough team

  • You know the members of your team to know who has what allergies and who loves chocolate and who hates chocolate

  • You are organized enough to know ahead of time about work anniversaries that are coming up and not miss any of them

  • Your life is stable enough that you can consistently put the time into baking something for every one of the work anniversaries

  • There is someone on the team who can be your backup if something unexpected happens in your life that makes it so you’re unable

Work anniversaries or birthdays?

If you can check all of the boxes above, then we would highly recommend using your talent on work anniversaries rather than birthdays. Work anniversaries get much less attention, and so you’ll be much more appreciated for your efforts. Many people will get a birthday cake at home… no one gets a workiversary cake at home!

Also, while most people are okay with their aging, bringing attention to some people’s age can feel awkward for them whereas bringing attention to their time at the company is never awkward.

Are you going to go for it?

We’ve now shared everything we know about work anniversary baked goods.

If you’re still going to go for it, we’re thrilled that you’re joining the movement to eliminate missed and mediocre work anniversaries! Welcome to the team!
